Stone Age man at Melville Koppies.
Teachers’ guide.
Stone Age man once walked the ridges and valleys of Melville Koppies. No trace of their presence remains except for a few tools which have been excavated or found in odd places.
There is a collection of Stone Age tools on display in the furnace. The tools range from the very large tools of early Stone Age to the small delicate ones of the late Stone Age, i.e. the Bushmen.
The artefacts in the photos are brought to the Koppies for talks on Bushmen. The talk is presented in story form for young children and is geared to their attention span.
After the talk/story, children are taken for a nature walk to experience the veld that Stone Age man once walked. The length and terrain of the walk depend on the age of the group.
After the walk the children have refreshments, supplied by parents or school, at the lecture hut. The tour lasts about two hours.
